Just did my third oil change on the Jeep with around 4700 miles on the odometer. Last time around I put in a magnetic drain plug in the oil pan, and I was curious to see what it might capture from the oil.
Well, definitely capturing SOMETHING ferrous in nature!
I wiped that metallic residue onto a paper towel to clean up the magnet:
And here's what the magnet looks like after being cleaned:
The magnet on that plug is actually pretty strong, but it really does not extend much into the oil pan. Wish the Jeep's 3.6L engine had a replaceable canister filter like most other vehicles so I could wrap a magnetic collar around it to try to remove more metal from the oil.
